Microfiction- Ollie and Rory: Attorneys at Paw

Once upon a time, there was a grey cat named Ollie, and a chihuahua named Rory. The two were quite an unlikely pair. Ollie was confident and authoritative, while Rory was timid and submissive. However, the two had one very important passion in common: animal rights advocacy. They had seen one too many friend be treated poorly, and refused to stand for it any longer. So, they started a law firm together. They both already had their license, so it was a perfect idea! They would work together to insure that all animals would be treated kindly and with respect!

Author's note: I wrote these short stories about my cat, Ollie, and one of my good friend's dog Rory. We have joked about writing a children's book with the same title, and so I thought that it would be fun to do a sort of trial story to see how it works.

    Hi Natalie-

    This microfiction actually cured my election week anxiety. Everything can get so stressful culminating together so this helped a lot. The thought of a dog and cat working together is already adorable, and to add it's for a good cause. I also love that this is something that you're deliberating on in real life. If it counts for anything, i'd definitely buy a copy. Good work!

    I have to agree with the comment above. I think this story is the highlight of my week! I love that you wrote about your own pets, and I also thought it was fun to have a dog and a cat team up in the name of animal rights! So cute and so clever! Please write a children's book!

Week 4 Story: A retelling of the story of Arachne

Current version at  my portfolio name is Athena, goddess of wisdom and war. Once, long ago, I had heard rumors of a young mortal girl in the village of Maeonia who thought that she was the most skilled weaver to have ever lived. She went by the name Arachne, and -to be quite frank- was nothing all that special- the definition of a mere mortal. She did not come from a noble family, nor did she have much money. She was good at weaving, I will give her that, but definitely not good enough for her to claim that no one else could compete with her. Port Aransas... My Favorite Place

One of my favorite places is Port Aransas, Texas. It is a small island on the Gulf Coast, right next to Corpus Christi. My family and I went to Port Aransas for vacation for the first time when I was about eight years old. Since then, we have returned four times. Port Aransas is a beautiful island town, with a lot of local color. It is not nearly as big of a tourist destination as Corpus Christi, which is part of the reason we love it so much. Every time that we visit, we stay at the Aransas Princess, which is a condominium where many people live during the off season, and rent out during the summer. My family loves to stay there because the staff is wonderful, and because it is like being in an apartment rather than a hotel. My family loves to cook, and staying at the Aransas Princess gives us a kitchen and the ability to have home-cooked family meals.
