Growth Mindset

Image
Before this assignment, I had never heard of Carol Dweck or the growth mindset. When watching the videos, I found myself thinking back to my own experiences with school throughout my life. Personally, I think that the growth mindset is something that I need to work on. I am, and have always been, a perfectionist. This often made school and assignments difficult in the past, because I felt that if I could not do an assignment perfectly, I would be failing. This often led to me procrastinating my school work until I felt like I could do it perfectly, or, more accurately, I had to choice but to get it done as it was due very soon. I think that learning more about this concept will help me in my school work and in my day to day life. In the second video, I really related to the discussion about things being 'too easy.' When I was in elementary and middle school, the work was very easy for me, and I was often bored during classes. This meant that I did not learn how to study effecti

Introduction to Me

Image
Hi! My name is Natalie. I am a senior at the University of Oklahoma, and I am graduating this semester! I bounced around majors quite a bit before finally finding the one that suits my interests and talents. I am majoring in Sociology with a focus in Criminology, and minoring in Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Analysis. I am originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma but am currently living and working in Norman. After graduation, I do not know exactly what career path I want to pursue, but ideally I would love one that has something to do with forensics of some sort. Specifically, I am very interested in fingerprinting, blood splatter analysis, and other types of trace evidence analysis. I have always been fascinated with those types of things, so I would love the opportunity to do that for a living. I also enjoy photography a lot, so I am interested in the idea of documenting crime scenes or being a crime scene photographer as well.  In my free time, I enjoy reading, watching televisio

Storybook Favorites

The first storybook that I came across and found interesting is Ghost Stories of OU . I opened this storybook because the title really caught my eye. I enjoy ghost stories, particularly ones relating to places I have a connection to. I really like that this storybook has multiple different stories to read. I think that the introduction does a great job of showing what will be talked about in the storybook as well as intriguing the reader. I also really like the dark and slightly spooky theme of the storybook. It does a great job at setting the tone of the reading.  The second storybook I found interesting is the Real Housewives of Greek Mythology . This one grabbed my attention because of the humorous concept and title. I really enjoy that the introduction introduces the main characters, and that the additional pages for each story is titled as 'Season 1, episode 1' and so on. I think that modernizing greek mythology is always a fun idea. I also really enjoy that the stories a

Port Aransas... My Favorite Place

Image
One of my favorite places is Port Aransas, Texas. It is a small island on the Gulf Coast, right next to Corpus Christi. My family and I went to Port Aransas for vacation for the first time when I was about eight years old. Since then, we have returned four times. Port Aransas is a beautiful island town, with a lot of local color. It is not nearly as big of a tourist destination as Corpus Christi, which is part of the reason we love it so much. Every time that we visit, we stay at the Aransas Princess, which is a condominium where many people live during the off season, and rent out during the summer. My family loves to stay there because the staff is wonderful, and because it is like being in an apartment rather than a hotel. My family loves to cook, and staying at the Aransas Princess gives us a kitchen and the ability to have home-cooked family meals. The beach is absolutely gorgeous, and there are so many fun things to do. Port Aransas has become even more special to my family, as m
