Topic Research: True Tales vs TV Tales

For my storybook, I would like to explore the similarities and differences between the original mythology stories and those that are used in popular television. Specifically, I was thinking about how the creatures and myths are portrayed in the popular television show Supernatural. I chose this show because the whole premise of it is supernatural creatures and myths, so you would think they did their research and made it as accurate as possible. I would like to pursue this by finding episodes of the show that focus on one specific supernatural creature or myth, and watching it. After watching it I would read the original myth and see how the two compare. 

One possible example is the Djinn, or Jinn, or Genie. Season 2, episode 20 of Supernatural is titled "What Is and What Should Never Be". It explores the Winchester brothers hunting a Djinn, or supernatural creature that will fulfill your greatest wish. It shows that sometimes what we wish for isn't all that it's cracked up to be. 

Another example would be the Trickster. Season 2, episode 15 is titled "Tall Tales" and focuses on a Trickster wreaking havoc at a local college. The show follows this Trickster through multiple episodes and explores the myths of Tricksters.

One more possible example would be vampires. Supernatural has multiple episodes involving vampires, as well as many other popular television and movie series. There is an abundance of opportunity with this supernatural being specifically to compare and contrast modern interpretation with the original stories.

Port Aransas... My Favorite Place

One of my favorite places is Port Aransas, Texas. It is a small island on the Gulf Coast, right next to Corpus Christi. My family and I went to Port Aransas for vacation for the first time when I was about eight years old. Since then, we have returned four times. Port Aransas is a beautiful island town, with a lot of local color. It is not nearly as big of a tourist destination as Corpus Christi, which is part of the reason we love it so much. Every time that we visit, we stay at the Aransas Princess, which is a condominium where many people live during the off season, and rent out during the summer. My family loves to stay there because the staff is wonderful, and because it is like being in an apartment rather than a hotel. My family loves to cook, and staying at the Aransas Princess gives us a kitchen and the ability to have home-cooked family meals. Week 9 Story: The Color of Magic

Updated story! Once there was a young man who saw the world around him in shades of black and white. Now, this young man did not know that there was anything different about the way in which he viewed the world. One day, he went into town to the market, needing to buy a few items for dinner, including a lemon.  Normally, the market had signs near each pile of fruits or vegetable noting their name and price. However, there were no signs in sight this time. The young man asked a kind looking older woman if she knew which pile of fruit were the lemons. The woman looked a bit confused, and hesitantly said "the yellow ones".  Now this certainly puzzled the young man, who asked what 'yellow' was. When she told him that it was a bright color, he became even more confused. He had never seen anything like what the woman described as 'yellow', and knew something was wrong.
