Reading Notes: Chinese Fairy Tales Part A

The Cave of the Beasts, by R. Wilhelm was an interesting story to read. It was a bit darker than I was expecting. I think that it would be interesting to rewrite this fairy tale with a bit of a darker twist, where perhaps the daughters do not let their father into the cave. They could keep their newfound riches to themselves. This would make the moral of the story that greediness often leads to loss of wealth rather than gain.

Why Dog and Cat are Enemies by R. Wilhelm also really interested me. As someone who owns a cat that absolutely hates dogs, I find this story very entertaining. I think that it would be fun to retell this story using the same basic idea, but a more modern and exciting backstory.

Week 4 Story: A retelling of the story of Arachne

Current version at  my portfolio name is Athena, goddess of wisdom and war. Once, long ago, I had heard rumors of a young mortal girl in the village of Maeonia who thought that she was the most skilled weaver to have ever lived. She went by the name Arachne, and -to be quite frank- was nothing all that special- the definition of a mere mortal. She did not come from a noble family, nor did she have much money. She was good at weaving, I will give her that, but definitely not good enough for her to claim that no one else could compete with her. As you likely already know, I myself am quite skilled in the art of weaving. I can depict beautiful scenes with the yarn in a fraction of the time that it would take most mortals. Port Aransas... My Favorite Place

One of my favorite places is Port Aransas, Texas. It is a small island on the Gulf Coast, right next to Corpus Christi. My family and I went to Port Aransas for vacation for the first time when I was about eight years old. Since then, we have returned four times. Port Aransas is a beautiful island town, with a lot of local color. It is not nearly as big of a tourist destination as Corpus Christi, which is part of the reason we love it so much. Every time that we visit, we stay at the Aransas Princess, which is a condominium where many people live during the off season, and rent out during the summer. My family loves to stay there because the staff is wonderful, and because it is like being in an apartment rather than a hotel. My family loves to cook, and staying at the Aransas Princess gives us a kitchen and the ability to have home-cooked family meals.
